A Hole in One For The Trust!

The Castle Golf Society hosted its largest ever fund raising day last Friday at The Rayleigh Club, Essex.

Following last year’s Anaphylaxis Charity day, this year the committee decided The Amy May Trust was the most worthy cause. With Amy’s recovery slow but progressing what could be a better way of supporting Amy and her family on their journey.

19 teams were entered, due to the number of committed individuals that turned up on a damp’n’murky Essex day the groups were split between the 1st and the 10th tees. The day consisted of many challenges…longest drive, nearest the pin, beat the professional, to varying formats of Ryder Cup style golfing challenges. A new idea for 2015 was the allowance of a “mulligan” …for those non-golfers this is term used when you allow someone to have another go should they have got the first one wrong…this year a mulligan needed to be purchased for £10, for that you received a helium filled balloon that was released as each player had their “mulligan”, suffice to say after 18 holes only 3 balloons were retained , this alone raised over £700 on the day, with “beat the pro” a further £350

After the competition had concluded, a hearty meal was welcomed by all, then on to prize giving and an evening of Magic and Comedy. This was suitably followed with the serious business of the auction. This year’s items consisted of a villa holiday, various golfing trips, golfing memorabilia, a TV, with the highlight of the evening coming from4 paintings donated by local artist Sarah Holcombe. The generosity from so many for the auction and raffle was heart-warming, these items contributing a further £7,000 on the day.

Already at £8,000, monies are still trickling in, including those that didn’t win anything during the auction or raffle who continue to make donations to this most worthy of causes.
