A Word From John
John Aves sums up his thoughts and feelings on the mammoth challenge which he undertook during the bank holiday weekend, at the end of May. Thank you, John, you are an inspirational man, and thank you to everyone who has sponsored him and in doing so, shown wonderful support to both him and to Amy.
"On Sunday I got on my bike and went for a jaunt. As most of you know by now, my challenge was to cycle 160 miles through some of the toughest terrain in the country. I missed my target by 20 miles, falling short on the North York Moors in a tiny place called Commondale. I was 20 miles from Whitby suffering from severe back pain and exhaustion. I had been riding since 05:00 in the morning, over the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales through searing heat. At 20:10 my legs decided enough was enough and the metaphorical white towel was hurled into the air to signal mercy at the hands of those dastardly moors.
Those of you who know me will know that I don't give up easily, however, I know it was the right thing to do and I'm still immensely proud of what we achieved in those 15 hours.
A huge thank you firstly to my support crew; My beautiful wife Emma and my friend Kelly. They were with me every step, providing nourishment and LOL's as and when required, and being more supportive than a wonder bra. It's an honour to have shared this trip with you both.
Another huge thank you to all of you who donated, who took the time to visit the website and who helped share this challenge and collect sponsorship. We've surpassed £2,000.00 which is incredible, and the money is still rolling in. If you're thinking of donating but you haven't quite got round to it, there's still time.
Last but not least, to Amy, Sue & Roger, Julie and Tom Martin and the whole family. We're with you every step of the way and we will never falter.
Stay safe, be kind to one another and remember that love always wins.
John x"
